Background -
The People’s Supermarket is a community-based shop that’s managed and owned by members and open to all. It’s based on Lamb’s Conduit St, London WC1 and takes its format from the popular co-operative ‘Park Slope’ in Brooklyn, NYC.

The brand needed to reflect the co-op’s core values of being communal, affordable and democratic without appearing too virtuous or elitist. A full identity programme was required including logo, stationery suite, advertising, packaging and brand guidelines.

The identity centres around the classic ‘Euroslot’ symbol widely used in retail packaging. Produced using a £12.50 hole punch, it provides a cheap and versatile alternative to a diecut which can be used on everything from letterheads packaging.

The story of the supermarket was broadcast in its own four part documentary which aired in early 2011.

FastCo. design quote: The new identity package elevates the notion of a food co-op, with its collective ideals and crunchy freewheeling mission, into something improbably hip
